Household Energy Bill Assistance
When you’re living paycheck to paycheck, money is tight. If you, like many of us, are struggling to pay your household bills, we can help. Willowbridge Community Services is the designated service agency for the Ontario Energy Support Program (OESP), Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP), and Union Gas. Each of these programs provides financial assistance to eligible households to support them with their electrical and gas bills.
Ongoing support with electricity bills
If you pay an electricity bill directly to a utility company and are in a lower-income home, you may be able to lower the cost of your electricity bill. Eligible households can file an application for the Ontario Energy Support Program (OESP) and receive a monthly credit that is applied directly to energy bills. You can apply for your credit on-line at ontarioelectricitysupport.ca. If you need assistance in completing your application for the OESP, contact us to make an appointment. Emergency support for gas & electricity bills
The Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) and Union Gas Energy Assistance Program (UGEAP) provide emergency financial assistance to those temporarily unable to make ends meet in an emergency situation. The assistance comes in the form of a one-time grant that goes towards your electricity or natural gas bill. They also impose special rules that utilities have to follow when dealing with customers with limited finances; for example, waiving security deposits, allowing longer payment times and more. Funding for this program is provided by the utilities and may be limited. Applications are taken and approved on a first come, first served basis, beginning in January of each year.
