Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a condition wherein a person struggles with obsessions (unwanted, repeated, intrusive thoughts) and compulsions (repeated acts or rituals) that they act on to try and reduce their anxiety around an obsession. This condition can really disrupt the ability to lead a good life, and is especially difficult because individuals may feel that their behaviours are irrational or wrong, but don’t have control over them.
If you’re living with OCD, counselling can make a difference.
At Willowbridge Community Services, we know that your obsessions don’t define who you are and you don’t need to feel ashamed. Counselling can help you take back control and offer you a safe place to grow and explore the changes you want to make.
Using trauma-informed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, our counsellors support you to challenge the obsessive thoughts that are causing you distress. We explore the fear and anxiety underlying your obsession and gather evidence to test your beliefs. We work with you to begin changing your behaviour, starting with forgiving yourself and understanding that OCD is often a response to a negative experience that you couldn’t control. You don’t have to struggle alone.
