Past or Present Abuse

Abuse is an attempt to control the behaviour of another person. It is a misuse of power that uses the bonds of intimacy, trust, and dependency to make someone vulnerable and it comes in many different forms. Physical abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, financial and sexual abuse are all examples and can cause pain and psychological distress long after the abuse has ended.

You don’t have to cope with abuse alone

The emotional pain of being abused is often harder to heal than the physical wounds. Anxiety, flashbacks, depression, low self-worth and difficulty forming relationships are common. Sometimes, these challenges can make it difficult for survivors to lead a good life and many live in fear.

For those struggling, know that counselling can make a difference. At Willowbridge Community Services, we can support you while you put the pieces back together and create distance between yourself and the abuse. All of our therapists use a trauma-informed approach to therapy.Find out how we can support you.
