PTSD and Trauma
Sometimes we can experience an event that changes how we see the world. Maybe you were in a situation where you felt that your life was at risk, or maybe you witnessed someone around you being seriously injured. A car accident, a sexual assault, physical violence or the threat of it… all of these experieces are considered traumatic and can be very difficult to move on from.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is the name given to the symptoms people often experience after living through a traumatic event.
Symptoms can be very upsetting and disruptive and include intrusive thoughts, flashbacks, nightmares, depression, numbness, insomnia, lack of appetite, addiction, rage, avoidance, digestive issues, and chronic pain.
The good news is, counselling at Willowbridge Community Services can allow you take back control of your life. Our trauma-informed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy has shown to be very effective at treating PTSD, and our counsellors can support you as you work through the feelings that you’re struggling with.
